Monticello is the essence of small-town America, with the peace and quiet our residents desire, and all the services, shopping, and entertainment located close by as well! Courthouse Square, a National Historic District, is home to galleries, restaurants, and unique shops, and the Monticello Farmers Market is open from June through the beginning of October.

Allerton Park and Retreat Center
Experience outdoor fun and relaxation at the Robert Allerton Park. This 1,517-acre park and nature center on the upper Sangamon River also has facilities for conferences.

Eli Field
Managed by the Monticello Model Masters, this radio-control airplane field offers events for the public as well as programs to teach model plane flying. Remote control car tracks are also located at the facility.

Lodge Park
Owned and managed by Piatt County Forest Preserve Park District, the 500-acre park is open for camping and picnics. Walking trails and a playground are also available.

Monticello Family Aquatic Center
For a nominal season fee, individuals and families can swim in the 5750 sq. ft. main pool or experience the 14 ft. tall flume water slide or the zero-depth pool with 16 water features. Lounge chairs and shade canopies as well as locker rooms and showers are also available.

Monticello Railway Museum
Visitors to this non-profit museum can ride a vintage passenger train as well as see pieces of railroad equipment including restored diesel locomotives and even a few cars. Seasonal events, including the Polar Express, are scheduled from May through December.
